סטיב ג’ובס, מנכ”ל חברת אפל, אחת הדמויות האגדיות של עולם הטכנולוגיה הודיע הלילה כי הוא פורש מתפקידו בחברה. בהודעה רשמית שנעביר מייסד חברת אפל, מפתיע במכתב פתוח שהפיץ בו ומודיע כי זהו הזמן לרדת מתפקידו ולהעביר את המושכות לטים קוק, קצין התפעול הראשי בחברה. חברת אפל דאגה מהר מאוד לאשר כי סטיב ישאר יו”ר הדירקטוריון, כנראה על מנת להרגיע את המשקיעים. למרות זאת מניית אפל ירדה ב-5.07% מאז ההכרזה.
סטיב ג’ובס פורש מניהול החברה לאחר שייסד אותה יחד עם שותפיו מייקל וויזניאק ומייק מרקולה (שהיה זה שהשקיעה לראשונה באפל ונתן לה דחיפה תקציבית), שפתחו ועצבו לבדם את מחשביה הראשונים של החברה עוד בתחילת שנות ה-70. הפרישה של מנכ”ל אפל מגיע לאחר שבשבע שנים האחרונות נלחם במחלת הסרטן וניהל את החברה לסירוגין, כאשר פעמים רבות היו שמועות שבכלל לא יופיע להכרזות החשובות. עקב כך, בפועל ניהל את החברה מאז 2009 טים קוק, בעוד מספר פעמים במהלך חופשות המחלה של סטיב הוא שימש גם כמנכ”ל.
בהודעה לעיתונות אומר סטיב: “תמיד אמרתי שאם יגיע יום שבו לא אוכל למלא את חובותי והציפיות שלי כמנכ”ל אפל, אני אהיה הראשון שאדע על כך. לצערי, היום הזה הגיע”. עוד מוסיף: “אני מאמין כי ימיה הטובים ביותר של אפל עוד לפניה”.

Jobs submitted his resignation to the Board today and strongly recommended that the Board implement its succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO.
As COO, Cook was previously responsible for all of the company’s worldwide sales and operations, including end-to-end management of Apple’s supply chain, sales activities, and service and support in all markets and countries. He also headed Apple’s Macintosh division and played a key role in the continued development of strategic reseller and supplier relationships, ensuring flexibility in response to an increasingly demanding marketplace.
